Her death cry swept the tunnel, and my fire engulfed it. Her scorched undead body mirrored in my eyes, and I couldn’t help but feel bad for her. I could relate to her pain, and understood the desperation in her trials of a better life. That being said, she was still a threat to not only her family, but the rest of these so-called monsters in the backyard.

“Rest in peace, Kitty.” I took one last look of her remains and crossed my feet over them. Once I reached Benji, I noticed the curses were gone, the enchanter already working on breaking down her coffin with his staff.

“Heh, looks like you took a few notes from her monologue earlier,” I said with a content smile.

“Honestly, I rather you burn this bad boy down. I don’t trust transforming it with my core.”

“Good point.” I conjured another flame show after I laid my hand along the edge, the wood taken up in flames in no time. “Let’s grab Rem and get the hell out of here.”

“Whew. I hope that dirtbag Levin jots this down in the books.”

“I’m sure he knows we finished this mission on time.”

Benji looked down at his watch, and then took it off. He tapped the head of his staff on it and made it wider before giving it to me. “Here. You take it. A token of my gratitude. I can make myself another one.”

“Seriously?” I took his gift and strapped it along my wrist. “Thanks, Benji. This is great! Now I can stop counting minutes in my head.”

“Hey, it’s the least I could do for you being so generous with me.” I gave him a friendly tap on his shoulder as I passed him for Rem. And once I scooped her over my shoulders again, Benji and I left the underground lair of the late necromancer.
